Decomposable theories

چکیده
We present in this paper a general algorithm for solving first-order formulas in particular theories called decomposable theories. First of all, using special quantifiers, we give a formal characterization of decomposable theories and show some of their properties. Then, we present a general algorithm for solving first-order formulas in any decomposable theory T . The algorithm is given in the form of five rewriting rules. It transforms a first-order formula φ, which can possibly contain free variables, into a conjunction φ of solved formulas easily transformable into a Boolean combination of existentially quantified conjunctions of atomic formulas. In particular, if φ has no free variables then φ is either the formula true or ¬true . The correctness of our algorithm proves the completeness of the decomposable theories. Finally, we show that the theory T of finite or infinite trees is a decomposable theory and give some benchmarks realized by an implementation of our algorithm, solving formulas on two-partner games in T with more than 160 nested alternated quantifiers.

Extension of First-Order Theories into Trees
We present in this paper an automatic way to combine any first-order theory T with the theory of finite or infinite trees. First of all, we present a new class of theories that we call zero-infinite-decomposable and show that every decomposable theory T accepts a decision procedure in the form of six rewriting rules which for every first order proposition give either true or false in T . We pre...
متن کاملAn Efficient Decision Procedure for Functional Decomposable Theories Based on Dual Constraints
Over the last decade, first-order constraints have been efficiently used in the artificial intelligence world to model many kinds of complex problems such as: scheduling, resource allocation, computer graphics and bio-informatics. Recently, a new property called decomposability has been introduced and many first-order theories have been proved to be decomposable: finite or infinite trees, ratio...
متن کاملConstructing vertex decomposable graphs
Recently, some techniques such as adding whiskers and attaching graphs to vertices of a given graph, have been proposed for constructing a new vertex decomposable graph. In this paper, we present a new method for constructing vertex decomposable graphs. Then we use this construction to generalize the result due to Cook and Nagel.
متن کاملOn the decomposable numerical range of operators
Let $V$ be an $n$-dimensional complex inner product space. Suppose $H$ is a subgroup of the symmetric group of degree $m$, and $chi :Hrightarrow mathbb{C} $ is an irreducible character (not necessarily linear). Denote by $V_{chi}(H)$ the symmetry class of tensors associated with $H$ and $chi$. Let $K(T)in (V_{chi}(H))$ be the operator induced by $Tin text{End}(V)$. Th...
متن کاملTwo Encodings of DNNF Theories
The paper presents two new compilation schemes of Decomposable Negation Normal Form (DNNF) theories into Conjunctive Normal Form (CNF) and Linear Integer Programming (MIP), respectively. We prove that the encodings have useful properties such as unit propagation on the CNF formula achieves domain consistency on the DNNF theory. The approach is evaluated empirically on random as well as real-wor...
